Professorial Fellow

Jonathan Harris is a Professorial Fellow in UCA’s School of Fine Art and Photography. Awarded his doctorate in 1986 from Middlesex University, Harris has taught at several UK universities – Leeds Polytechnic, Keele, Liverpool, Southampton and Birmingham City University. He was Director of Research at Winchester School of Art 2011-2015 and Head of Birmingham School of Art 2016-2021. Harris is the author and editor of 23 books and has published over 150 scholarly essays and reviews. He is Academic Advisor to the Today Art Museum in Beijing, PRC, and a member of UKRI’s Strategic Reviewers’ Group for Art & Design (AHRC). He most recent book is his edited collection, Terrorism and the Arts: Practices and Critiques in Contemporary Culture (Routledge 2021). Harris’s next sole-authored book will be Contemporary Art and the Conflicts of Globalization, 1950-2025, also from Routledge.
