Steffi Klenz has been selected as one of 11 commissioned artists for the ground-breaking project Camden Alive, funded by The Mayor of London as part of the London Borough of Culture programme. Klenz has been working in collaboration with Maiden Lane rappers Brownsilla and Boss B as Artists in Residence at the Camden Local Studies and Archive Centre, London. The commission explores Maiden Lane, a social housing estate in Camden, and Klenz researched its history, architectural impact and shared thoughts, feelings and experiences with residents of the estate to inform her new work. The new work will be showcased in an exhibition, an album and by the creation of the virtual Camden People’s Museum. Presented through augmented reality the museum will illuminate and animate Klenz’ work, revealing the vibrant individual and collective culture of the Maiden Lane Estate in London. For Camden Alive, immersive technology specialists Arcade Ltd are working with Klenz to present her new work through a bespoke augmented reality app. This will enable new, large audiences to experience Klenz’ art in an immersive way in their own spaces.
